Starting college is never easy. It can be stressful, overwhelming, and you may feel lost and out of your comfort zone.
Don’t worry! Here are some of our favorite, and most useful college tips, that you can use to have the best college experience
- Check for the required subjects for your major
First, cover the basics and find the core classes. Then check to see if you are eligible for more advanced courses and see which ones fit your degree. Also, check for any additional coursework needed for your degree.
2. Engage in extracurricular activities
Enriching your high school resume with extracurricular activities will show colleges that you are very active and show how much you can contribute to the school. Find any clubs or sports that interest you.
3. Engage with your professor and counselors often
Having a counselor/teacher recommendation for your resume is essential. Build relationships with your teachers. It will work out in the long run.
4. Learn time management
When you’re in college, there isn’t a set 8-3 Monday – Friday schedule. Different classes will have different hours and you need to manage your job as well. Learn to be efficient and manage your time now while you’re in high school.
5. Prepare a list of potential colleges
One college planning rule you can use is to find 30 potential colleges and write them all down. Then you reduce that number down to 9. Categorize those 9 schools into 3 dream schools, 3 best-fit schools, and 3 safety schools.
6. Attend many campus tours.
Of the top schools, you picked, plan to visit them either virtually or in public. If you can’t, thoroughly research the campus life and buildings. Search Google Maps to find what’s close by.
